Operations Division

About the Division

The Operations Division is the largest and most visible branch of the Bell Police Department. It is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of police services to our community, including patrol, traffic enforcement, community engagement, and special event coordination.

Our officers are on the front lines—patrolling neighborhoods, responding to emergencies, preventing crime, and building relationships with residents and businesses. The division operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring that the City of Bell remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and visit.

Mission

The mission of the Bell Police Department is to provide a safe quality of life through professional service, integrity and strong community partnership.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
  • Conducting criminal and traffic investigations
  • Providing high-visibility patrols to deter crime
  • Enforcing traffic laws and promoting roadway safety
  • Participating in community outreach and problem-solving initiatives
  • Supporting major community events and critical incidents

Patrol Bureau

The Patrol Bureau is the core of the Operations Division. Uniformed officers patrol assigned beats by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot to maintain public safety and respond rapidly to calls for service.

Patrol officers are often the first to arrive at the scene of crimes, accidents, and emergencies. They handle initial investigations, assist victims, and coordinate with detectives, fire personnel, and emergency medical responders.

Traffic Unit

The Traffic Unit focuses on improving roadway safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Officers conduct traffic enforcement, investigate collisions, and provide education to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

Responsibilities include:

  • DUI and distracted driving enforcement
  • Collision investigations and reconstruction
  • School-zone and pedestrian safety operations

K9 Unit

The K9 Unit assists patrol officers with tracking suspects, searching for narcotics, and locating missing persons or evidence. Each K9 team undergoes extensive training to ensure safe and effective deployment in the field.

Our K9s are not only valuable law enforcement partners, they are community favorites, often participating in school visits and public demonstrations.

Community Policing

All our Officers are Community Policing Officers who partner with residents, local businesses, schools, and community organizations to build trust and solve neighborhood problems collaboratively.

Our Officers lead outreach programs such as:

  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Business Watch meetings
  • Coffee with a Cop events
  • Community safety presentations and youth engagement

Field Training Program

The Field Training Program ensures new officers receive practical, on-the-job experience under the guidance of certified Field Training Officers (FTOs). This program helps new officers apply academy training to real-world situations while maintaining department standards and professionalism.

Commitment to Excellence

Members of the Operations Division are dedicated to providing exceptional service with integrity, respect, and accountability. Through proactive enforcement and community partnership, we continue to make the City of Bell a safer and stronger community.
