Welcome to the Bell Police Department where “Compassionate and Progressive Policing” is the standard of service we provide to our community. The department’s sworn and civilian staff are committed to safeguarding the lives and property of the residents and visitors to the City of Bell. We are honored to work in a diverse community whose residents genuinely care about their city, and who are willing to work with us to make Bell a safer, better place.
We believe strongly that Community Partnership is key to our ability to effectively police the city, and we take pride in our tradition of service. As the Chief of Police, I have enjoyed many positive discussions with community members and I am pleased with the amount of trust they have in our officers. My goal is to build upon the trust that has been established, and to continue engaging with our community stakeholders so that together we can address problems affecting their quality of life.
As you navigate through our webpage take note of the many facets of policing that we are engaged in. From Task Force Operations and investigative assignments, to patrol services and gang enforcement details, we deliver an array of strategies to keep Bell safe, and reduce the fear and incidence of crime throughout our city. We will continue to seek new and innovative crime fighting strategies to enhance our operational capabilities. In the future, our officers will have aerial drone capabilities and a dedicated traffic services detail. We are forming a Tactical Support Team to address unfolding incidents that require advanced tactics and training, and we are beginning to take part in commercial enforcement operations to address safety concerns related to trucks carrying large and sometimes hazardous payloads.
We also await the arrival of what will be our newest member of the force, a bloodhound dog that will serve to interdict narcotics and who is cross-trained in tracking. This means that our
K-9 will serve the community on two fronts. Not only will he sniff out drugs that are distributed throughout the region and serve as poison to our youth and those addicted to them, but he will respond to critical missing person requests in Bell and neighboring cities to help those in need. His tracking capabilities will allow our department to find the most vulnerable people in our society when they go missing.
Thank you for visiting our webpage and please consider being part of the Bell Police Department. We have many sworn and civilian opportunities and we value our personnel and the contributions they make daily to keeping Bell safe.
Sincerely,
Chief Damian Velasco
