Building and Safety
The Building and Safety Division enforces the City’s building, plumbing and electrical codes, which includes the review of building plans, issuance of construction permits and inspection of construction.
The Division checks construction plans to ensure they are in line with the City’s building codes. This examination involves the careful review of plans and may include structural and electrical analysis, as well as handicapped access review.
The Division also provides quality regulations for structures by:
- Offering pre-plan examination with building designer;
- Formal plan examination and field inspection to ensure safety;
- Guaranteed adherence to uniform safety and energy standards in the construction, addition or repair of buildings through plans examination and field inspections;
- Ensures accurate and prompt information to contractors, architects, engineers and property owners regarding building, energy and safety requirements;
- Coordinate building plan check procedures of all City departments
- Enforce building codes and require permits when suspect activities are observed in the field.

The Building Division encourages appointments however walk-ins are welcome. Counter hours are as follows:
