City of Bell – Human Resources Department FAQs

1. What is the difference between Open and Promotional recruitments?

Open Recruitment is available to all applicants, including external candidates.
Promotional Recruitment is limited to current full-time City of Bell employees who have completed their probationary period.

2. How does Human Resources process applications?

After a recruitment closes, Human Resources carefully reviews each application based on the following:

  • Completion of all required fields

  • Meeting the minimum qualifications

  • Responses to any supplemental questions (if required)

  • Submission of supporting documents (if applicable)

Only candidates who meet the minimum requirements will move forward in the selection process.

3. How long does it take to fill a vacancy?

Recruitment timelines vary depending on departmental needs. Positions may remain open for 2 weeks, 30 days, or until filled.
On average, the entire process—from recruitment opening to onboarding—takes approximately 12 weeks.

4. How long before I get notified after applying?

Applicants are typically notified within 2 weeks after the recruitment closes. Communication is sent via email regarding the status of the application.

5. I submitted my application online. Do I still need to mail or deliver a paper copy?

No. Once you submit your application online, it is automatically received by Human Resources. You will also receive an email confirmation as proof of submission.

6. Can I apply for more than one position at a time?

Yes. You are welcome to apply for multiple open positions, as long as you meet the minimum qualifications for each.

7. What happens after I pass the interview process?

If you are selected for the position, Human Resources will contact you to begin the pre-employment steps, which may include a background check, reference check, and medical examination, depending on the role.
