What Happens After the Complaint Is Made?

The supervisor receiving the complaint will ask the complainant to provide as much information as possible. The investigation will consist of taking formal statements from all persons involved and the gathering of any evidence or any other information related to the incident. Once completed, the investigation will be reviewed by a Commanding Officer who will determine a finding for each allegation of misconduct. The Commanding Officer will then make his/her recommendation to the Chief of Police who will then make a final decision concerning the disposition of the complaint. The complainant will be notified of the disposition within thirty days of the final decision.
