Overview

The Bell Police Department Detective Bureau is dedicated to providing thorough, objective, and professional investigations in support of our community and patrol operations. Our detectives work diligently to identify offenders, recover stolen property, and bring justice to victims of crime.

The bureau’s mission is simple: to seek truth through investigation while treating every case and every person with fairness, respect, and integrity.

Bureau Responsibilities

The Detective Bureau is responsible for follow-up investigations that go beyond the scope of initial patrol response. Detectives gather statements, collect and analyze evidence, coordinate with outside agencies, and prepare criminal cases for prosecution.

Major areas of focus include:

· Property Crimes – burglary, theft, fraud, and vandalism investigations

· Persons Crimes – assault, robbery, and other serious offenses against individuals

· Financial and Technology Crimes – forgery, identity theft, and cyber-related offenses

· Special Investigations – cases requiring extended surveillance, inter-agency cooperation, or specialized expertise

How Cases Are Assigned

Cases are evaluated for follow-up based on solvability factors such as suspect information, evidence, witness statements, and crime patterns. Detectives then conduct in-depth interviews, review video evidence, analyze reports, and coordinate with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure each case receives the attention it deserves.

Working with the Community

Community involvement is a vital part of successful investigations. Detectives regularly collaborate with residents, business owners, and neighborhood watch groups to share information and identify trends.
