2021-2029 Housing Element
Everyone needs safe, decent, and affordable housing. It provides shelter and is the foundation for family life and healthy neighborhoods. When housing meets the needs of the people, it builds strong communities that helps solve our challenges: economic, public health, transportation, environmental, etc.
However, the City of Bell and localities throughout California face challenges in meeting the demand for affordable and livable housing. Despite lower housing prices than in many other regions of Southern California, Bell's affordability crisis is acute and worsening as prices continue to rise faster than incomes. Household sizes too large for their homes lead to overcrowding, stress, and vulnerability to health problems.
Yet the City of Bell is also a place of opportunity, with new generation of leadership working toward a sustainable, healthy and equitable community through transparent collaboration and public participation. The City of Bell's 2021-2029 Housing Element is a blueprint for how the City can promote better, more secure, and affordable housing in keeping with the City's General Plan and all of the legal requirements from the State of California.
